I was talking to a good friend today who I have been friends with since we
were 11 years old, and just starting middle school.
We have been through LOTS together.
For many years we were at completely different area's in our lives,
she was a wife and mother far years before I had even met Travis.
Yet here we are at the point where we are starting to figure out
what we really want to do with our life in terms of a career.
We were chatting and I was saying how I think it is crazy that at 18 years old
you are supposed to get an education coinciding with the lifelong career you want.
The person I was at 18, and the person I am now are two very different people.
Hell, the person I was 5 years ago is stunned by the stuff that comes out of my mouth nowadays.
The things I knew then, or thought I knew then are nothing in comparison to now.
Had I known at 18 what I know now, my choice in a degree would have been so different.
I think this is part of why so many people hate the job they have.
Your ambitions, likes, dislikes and passions change so much between 18 and 30.
I finally got my degree a year ago,
and in that short amount of time I have discovered what I am truly passionate about,
and it certainly has nothing to do with what I spent years studying.
I guess the point to all of this is,
while it took me a really, really long time to figure it all out,
I think I finally know what I'm supposed to do with my life.
And it feels really good be starting on the path that will lead me to my career.

Couldn't have put it better myself. A degree can have more than one effect. It might make you love your subject all the more, it might make you realise that is isn't what you want to do with the rest of your life and, sadly, it can make you hate the subject.
It can turn out that you've had your life mapped out into a nice neat plan for so long that straying from that plan feels absolutely terrifying. Even if deep down you know that the plan's no longer right, that it no longer reflects you, it's been there for so long that you can't let it go.
And there's nothing worse than that. No-one should feel bound to go after the graduate jobs that are related to their degree or be made to believe that settling for anything else is a failure. Deciding what's right for you and doing it is no failure.
Yay! Go out and get it girl!! It takes reaping and sowing, but the fruits of your labor will forever be enjoyed! Doing what you are truly PASSIONATE about is a blessing for the rest of your life!!
